In this post, I’ll share simple steps to help you declutter with purpose and explain where and how to sell your unwanted things online. I’ll also include tips based on my own experience selling items and managing my merchandise shop.

Step 1: Start With a Simple Declutter

You don’t have to do it all in one day. Pick one area—like your closet, kitchen, or a single drawer—and ask yourself:

  • Have I used this in the last 6 to 12 months?

  • Is this item in good, working condition?

  • Would someone else find value in it?

Make three piles: Keep, Donate, and Sell.

Step 2: What You Can Sell

Many people are surprised by what others are willing to buy. Here are some popular types of items that tend to sell well:

  • Clothing, especially name brands, vintage, or seasonal items

  • Electronics and gadgets

  • Shoes, purses, and accessories

  • Home décor and small furniture

  • Craft supplies or hobby-related items

  • Unused beauty products (sealed) and skincare tools

If it’s clean and in good condition, someone out there might be looking for it.



Step 3: Where to Sell Your Items Online

Here are some platforms that make selling simple and accessible from your phone or computer:

  • Facebook Marketplace – Great for local sales and has no fees

  • OfferUp – Ideal for local selling with built-in messaging and optional shipping

  • eBay – Best for collectibles, electronics, and branded items

  • Vinted – A good option for fashion, shoes, and accessories

  • Mercari – Easy to use, supports shipping, and has low fees

  • Poshmark – Excellent for brand-name clothing and fashion-forward items

Take clear, well-lit photos, write honest descriptions, and price your items competitively. Responding quickly to buyers can help you close sales faster.
